Safety Precautions

Watch for Obstacles
While the power easy access system is moving the seat and steering wheel, keep body parts and luggage clear. If something gets caught, it can cause injury or damage.

Power Easy Access System

The Power Easy Access system automatically adjusts your driver's seat and steering wheel to create more space when exiting your vehicle, then returns them to your preferred position when you return. This is separate from memory position storage—it operates automatically based on vehicle state rather than memorized positions.

How It Activates

For the Power Easy Access system to activate when you exit, all three conditions must be met:

  • Shift lever in Park (P)
  • Power switch turned to OFF
  • Driver's seatbelt unfastened

Once activated, the seat and steering wheel automatically move rearward to create maximum exit space.

How It Deactivates (Returns to Driving Position)

The seat and steering wheel return to your previous driving position when either of these occurs:

  • Power switch turned to ACC or ON
  • Driver's seatbelt fastened

Important Operating Notes

  • The system may not operate if your seat is already very close to the rearmost position
  • If you manually adjust the seat during automatic operation, the system stops and switches to manual control
  • If you adjust your seat position during exit operation, the system won't activate on your next entry

What About Jam Protection?

The seat includes jam protection that automatically stops movement if it encounters resistance. However, always watch for obstructions when using seat memory recall, especially head restraint clearance for taller drivers.

Driving Position Memory

The Driving Position Memory feature automatically adjusts all of your vehicle's ergonomic components to match a saved configuration. This includes driver's seat, steering wheel, outside rear view mirrors, and head-up display (if equipped).

What Can Be Memorized

The system saves positioning for:

  • Driver's seat (all adjustments except lumbar support and cushion length)
  • Steering wheel (tilt and telescopic)
  • Outside rear view mirrors
  • Head-up display position (if equipped)

Number of Positions

You can record up to 2 different driving positions for each driver registered in your vehicle. This is perfect for couples sharing a vehicle or if you frequently switch between highway and off-road seating preferences.

Recording a Position (Step-by-Step)

  1. Park the vehicle with shift lever in Park (P)
  2. Turn power switch to ON
  3. Adjust your seat, steering wheel, mirrors, and HUD to your exact preference
  4. Press and hold the "SET" button (or within 3 seconds after pressing it), then press button "1" or "2" until you hear the buzzer sound
  5. The position is now saved to that button

Overwrite Warning: If you save a position to a button that already has a stored position, the new position will permanently replace the old one. There is no undo function.

Recalling a Position

  1. Park the vehicle with shift lever in Park (P)
  2. Turn power switch to ON
  3. Press button "1" or "2" until the buzzer sounds
  4. The system automatically moves all components to your saved position

Stopping Recall Mid-Operation

You can stop the automatic positioning at any time by:

  • Pressing the SET button
  • Pressing button 1 or 2 again
  • Operating any seat adjustment switch (stops seat only)
  • Operating the steering wheel control (stops steering only)

Important Limitations

  • The system cannot save lumbar support or seat cushion length adjustments—you'll need to adjust these manually each time
  • If your seat was already at the limit of travel when you recorded the position, recall may differ slightly from the original
  • Ensure adequate head restraint clearance before using recall, especially if you're tall
  • If a position fails to recall properly, contact your Toyota dealer

Timing Window for Memory Operation After Powering Off:

Once you turn the power switch off, you have a limited window to operate the memory system:

  • 180 seconds (3 minutes) after opening the driver's door
  • An additional 60 seconds after closing the driver's door

After these windows close, turn the power switch back to ON to use memory recall.

How Position Precision Works:

If your recorded position had the seat already at maximum forward or backward travel, the recalled position may differ slightly because the system hits the mechanical limit. This is normal and expected.

Electronic Key Integration: Automatic Driver Recognition

The most powerful feature of this system is its integration with your Land Cruiser's electronic key system. Unlike manual button storage, electronic key linking provides fully automatic driver recognition.

How It Works

  • Register your electronic key in the vehicle's My Settings system (see page 191)
  • The current driving position is automatically linked to that specific key
  • Whenever you unlock the vehicle with that key, the car recognizes you
  • Your driving position automatically recalls—no button press required

Entry Sequence with Electronic Key Registration

When you approach and open the driver's door with a registered key:

  • The system recognizes your key and accesses your saved position
  • The seat moves to a position slightly behind your saved position to make entry easier
  • The steering wheel and head-up display move to exactly your saved position
  • Other components (mirrors, HUD) move to your recorded positions

This two-stage positioning is clever design: the seat moves back slightly on entry to give you room, then everything moves to your exact position once you're settled. That balance between convenience and safety is what makes it work.

Multi-Driver Household Strategy

For families where multiple people drive the vehicle, electronic key linking becomes essential. Rather than fumbling with buttons, simply use your registered key and the vehicle learns your preferences automatically. This is why many Land Cruiser owners consider this feature one of the best improvements for quality of life.

Real-World Tips & Context

First-Time Setup: Conditioning and Calibration

Community feedback from Land Cruiser owners points to a critical first-time setup step that many people miss:

Condition the Seat System: Before recording your first memory position, move the driver's seat fully forward and then fully back several times. Also tilt the seat back fully forward and then fully back. This conditions the system for more reliable memory operation.

Check for Calibration Beeping: If your seat produces a beeping sound when moving it back and forth, the system needs calibration before memory functions will work reliably. This is often the difference between a working system and one that fails intermittently. Don't ignore this symptom.

These tips come from community discussions on Land Cruiser Forum and 250landcruiser.com, where multiple owners confirmed the same best practice.

Dual Control Systems: Two Ways to Manage Seat Memory

Your J250 Land Cruiser provides two separate but compatible systems for managing seat memory:

1. Door Button System (Manual)
Press buttons 1 or 2 on the driver's door to recall pre-recorded positions. You must manually press the button each time.

2. Infotainment Driver Profiles (Automatic with Electronic Keys)
Link electronic keys in My Settings. The vehicle automatically recognizes your key and recalls your position without any button press.

Both systems work independently and simultaneously. You could, for example, save position A to button 1 (your daily office commute setup) and also register your key to recall position B (your weekend off-road setup). The vehicle never confuses them because the key registration and manual buttons are completely separate.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake 1: Skipping Dealer Initialization
Some dealers don't properly reset or initialize the seat system before delivery. If your memory system doesn't seem to work from day one, verify with your dealer that the initialization procedure was completed.

Mistake 2: Ignoring Calibration Beeping
If your seat beeps during movement, don't ignore it. The system needs calibration before memory functions will work reliably. A quick dealer visit to calibrate will save you hours of frustration later.

Mistake 3: Confusing Button and Infotainment Controls
The two systems operate independently. If you record a position to button 1 and also register a key, they store different positions. Mixing them up leads to unexpected recalls or lost settings. Keep them separate and clear in your mind.

Multi-Driver Households: Why This Feature Shines

The combination of Power Easy Access and electronic key linking was specifically designed for families. Here's why it's transformative:

The Traditional Problem: In a multi-driver household, the first person to adjust the seat positions "claims" them. Subsequent drivers must waste time re-adjusting, or they drive uncomfortable. Everyone's frustrated.

The J250 Solution: Each family member uses their own registered electronic key. The vehicle automatically recalls that person's exact preferences—no adjustment needed. Your spouse gets in with their key, the seat moves to their perfect position automatically. Your teenager gets in with their key, the vehicle adjusts to their setup. No compromise, no adjustment time, no frustration.

This feature alone makes multi-driver households dramatically more convenient.

Power Easy Access Works Independently

A note of clarity: Power Easy Access operates completely independently from the memory position system. You don't need to use memory positions to benefit from Power Easy Access—it activates automatically whenever you meet the three exit conditions (Park, power OFF, seatbelt off), regardless of whether you've recorded any memory positions at all.

This means even drivers who never record positions still get the convenience of automatic seat/wheel recession on exit.

Advanced Option: Automatic Activation on Door Unlock

Your manual contains a customization option on page 647 that's rarely discovered: you can configure the system to automatically activate certain features when you unlock the doors. This can further enhance convenience, though it requires accessing your vehicle's settings menu. Review page 647 for details.
