Toyota just dropped an exciting concept at SEMA: the Land Cruiser ROX, and it’s got some serious throwback vibes to the classic FJ. While the modern Land Cruiser is definitely a capable full-size SUV, this new concept seems to aim for that “cool factor” the older models had but with a modern twist.
Based on the current Land Cruiser 250, the ROX ditches the roof and adds open panels, aggressive rocker panels, and beefed-up fender flares for a more rugged look. It’s got a sliding soft top for an open-air driving experience, while the interior features heritage-inspired leather upholstery in Toyota’s Heritage Orange. The ROX is also fully functional off-road with custom suspension, a 4-inch lift, wider track, oversized tires, a light bar, and even a custom mid-gate to access the small truck bed from the cabin.
Toyota's not saying this is the next FJ Cruiser, but the FJ40 influence is hard to miss. The FJ Cruiser was discontinued back in 2014, and Toyota has teased a smaller Land Cruiser in the future, possibly named the Land Cruiser FJ. Is the ROX concept a sneak peek of that? Toyota isn’t confirming anything yet, but they’re definitely watching how people react to this at SEMA.
If you’re at the show, the ROX is on display at the Toyota booth until November 8, so you can check it out in person. What do you think—could this be the modern FJ Cruiser we’ve been waiting for?
What do think guys? Are we looking at the future FJ Cruiser?
